New Warden at Dooly State Prison

Aimee Smith Reassigned
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Interim Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the reassignment of Aimee Smith to warden of Dooly State Prison (SP) effective December 16, 2018. As warden, Smith will be responsible for overseeing approximately 225 staff members and 1,683 medium security male offenders.
“Smith has proven to be an asset to the department over the past 23 years,” Ward said. “I am certain she will continue to bring an expert level of experience and proficiency to Dooly State Prison.”
Smith began her career with the department in 1995 as a correctional officer at Wilcox SP. In 1997, Smith was transferred to Burruss Correctional Training Center as a correctional officer II and was promoted to sergeant in 2000. She transferred to Dodge SP in 2002 as a sergeant and in 2004, Smith was promoted to lieutenant at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison. She was promoted to captain at Metro State Prison in 2006 and in 2010, promoted to deputy warden of security at Pulaski State Prison. In 2017, Smith was promoted to warden at Lee SP, where she currently serves.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, the Professional Management Program, the Correctional Leadership Institute, Warden’s Pre-Command and the Deputy Warden of Security Academy.
