New Warden at Burruss Correctional Training Center

James Spann promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of James Spann to Warden at Burruss Correctional Training Center (CTC), effective January 1, 2021. As Warden, Spann will be responsible for overseeing 230 staff members and 808 medium security male offenders.
“Span has exhibited exceptional leadership qualities throughout his tenure with the agency,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident that his professionalism and correctional knowledge will benefit the staff and offenders at Burruss CTC.”
Spann began his career with the Department in 2004 as a Counselor at Autry State Prison. In 2009 he was promoted to Chief Counselor at Calhoun State Prison, and in 2015 he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Wilcox State Prison. In 2020, he was reassigned to Autry State Prison as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, where he currently serves.
James received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Albany State University and Master of Arts in Public Safety and Public Administration from Cappella University. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Correctional Leadership Institute, National Institute of Corrections Auditors Training, Executive Basic Correctional Officer Training, and Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Academy.
