Charles Spinn Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Charles Spinn to Deputy Warden of Security at Georgia State Prison (SP) effective August 1, 2021. As Deputy Warden of Security, Spinn will be responsible for supervising and managing approximately 124 security staff members and 1100 close-security male offenders at the facility.

"Spinn has been a dedicated employee for 22 years and has shown exceptional commitment to the GDC mission," said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. "We look forward to seeing him excel as he takes on this leadership role at Georgia SP.”

Spinn began his career with the Department in 1999 as a Correctional Officer at Telfair SP. During his tenure at Telfair SP, he was promoted through the ranks of Correctional Officer II, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. In 2016, he transferred to Montgomery State Prison and in 2019, was promoted to Unit Manager at Georgia State Prison, where he currently serves.

Spinn’s departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Sergeants Academy, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, POST Instructor Training, Supervision I, II, and III, and Basic Management.
