Ricky Myrick Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Ricky Myrick to Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division effective December 1, 2016. Myrick is responsible for the oversight of 33 State Prisons, 13 Transitional Centers, seven Treatment Facilities, and seven Detention Centers. Myrick also monitors the overall supervision and safety of nearly 52,000 felony offenders.

“Ricky has 27 years of experience dealing with felony offenders, beginning his career on the front end as a Correctional Officer and most recently serving as Director of the Office of Professional Standards,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “In his new capacity as Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division, this insight will be advantageous to both him and the agency as a whole.”                        

Myrick began his career with the Department in 1989 as a Correctional Officer at Men’s State Prison. He served in several roles at Hancock State Prison, including CERT member, CERT Sergeant, and Assistant Tactical Squad Commander. At the former Rivers State Prison, he served as Lieutenant Tactical Squad Commander, and Coordinator of Special Operations. In 1995, He was chosen to serve as an Investigator for former Governor Zell Miller’s Strike Force on Drugs and Violent Crimes. In 1996, Myrick became the Department’s representative to the DEA State and Local Task Force. He served as Chief Investigator of the Fugitive Squad, just prior to his appointment to Director of the Office of Professional Standards in January 2010.

Myrick holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College at Columbus State University. He has completed numerous certification programs, including Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program, Corrections Leadership Institute, Managerial and Executive POST Certifications, Management Level 1 & 2, Hostage Negotiations, Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement School, US Marshals Service Task Force Officer School, Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force Officer School, GBI Narcotics Agent Training, Firearms Instructor, along with numerous High Risk Warrant Service and High Risk Entry courses. 

He is a founding member and Group Supervisor of the US Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
