New Deputy Warden of Security at Phillips State Prison

Preston Crowder Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Preston Crowder to Deputy Warden of Security at Phillips State Prison (SP) effective February 15, 2022. As deputy warden of security, Crowder will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and over 800 close security male offenders.

“During his twenty-four year tenure, Crowder has worked his way up through the ranks from Correctional Officer to Deputy Warden, giving him a broad range of correctional experience,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident he will continue to excel in his new leadership role at Phillips State Prison.”

Crowder began his career with the GDC in 1998 as a Correctional Officer at West Georgia Boot Camp, where he promoted through the ranks of Sergeant and Chief of Security. In 2008, he transitioned to probation services as a Surveillance Officer, and in 2019 he was promoted to Probation Officer.  In 2013, he was promoted to Probation Trainer, and in 2015, he was promoted to Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) Coordinator.  Crowder was promoted to BCOT Program Manager in 2019, where he currently serves.  

Crowder’s departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Probation Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Correctional Leadership Institute, POST Instructor Training, and the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University.
