Offenders in the TIER III Program cannot receive visits until they have been at the Special Management Unit for first thirty (30) days. Only immediate family members are allowed to visit once they are approved. Cancellation of family and professional visitation will occur the day before of an execution. If an execution is stayed, visitation will be canceled as long as an execution order is active. Professional visitation will be allowed for the condemned during an active execution order.
TIER III Offenders:
- Visitation Hours: 9:00AM – 3:00PM
- Visitation Days: Saturdays, Sundays and State Holidays
Specialized Mental Health Treatment Unit (SMHTU) Offenders:
- Visitation Hours: 9:00AM – 3:00PM
- Visitation Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays and State Holidays
All visits for the offenders assigned to the TIER III and SMHTU Program must be scheduled in advance. Please contact the facility for additional scheduling information. Additionally, cancellation of family and professional visits will occur the day before of an execution. If an execution is stayed, visitation will be canceled as long as an execution order is active. Professional visitation will be allowed for the condemned during an active execution order.
MISSION:
The Special Management Unit within the Georgia Department of Corrections rehabilitates close security offenders back into general population prisons through structure, programming, incentives, and education.
HOUSING:
Consist of six (6) cellblocks containing single-bunked cells.

- ACADEMIC: General Education Diploma, Remedial, Literacy, and Adult Basic Education.
- COUNSELING: Individual and Group Counseling, Offenders Under Transition, and Anger Management.
- RECREATION: General Recreation
- RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES: Pastoral Counseling
