Jerry Jefferson Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Jerry Jefferson to Deputy Warden of Security at Dooly State Prison (SP) effective January 1, 2022. As deputy warden of security, Jefferson will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and over 1,614 close-security male offenders.

“Jefferson has dedicated over 27 years of faithful service to the department,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “We are confident his experience and leadership will benefit the staff and offenders at Dooly SP.”

Jefferson began his career with the GDC in 1995 as a Correctional Officer at Macon SP.  During his tenure, he was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant.  In 2004, he was promoted to Captain at Lee SP.  In 2007, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Rutledge SP, and in 2011 transferred to Autry SP.  In 2019, he transferred to Dooly SP as Unit Manager, where he currently serves.

Jefferson received an associate degree from Columbus State University.  His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Executive Leadership Training, and the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University.
