Michael Edmondson Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Michael Edmondson to deputy warden of security at Dodge State Prison (SP), effective May 1, 2019. In this role, Edmondson will be responsible for overseeing approximately 200 security staff members and 1,200 medium-security male offenders.

“Edmondson has been a dedicated leader at every level throughout his career within the department,” Ward said. “We are confident that he will excel in his new role at Dodge SP.”

Edmondson began his career with the GDC in 1994 as a correctional officer at Dodge SP.  During his tenure at Dodge SP, he has been promoted through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, captain and, in 2014, was promoted to unit manager, where he currently serves.

Edmondson is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Phoenix University and received his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Phoenix University.  He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Sergeants Academy, the Correctional Leadership Institute, and Management I, II and III.
