Letitia Bell Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Letitia Bell to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Rutledge State Prison (SP) effective March 1, 2017. Bell will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 600 medium security male offenders.

“Letitia is a great example to her fellow employees, because she obtained both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree while employed full-time with the agency,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We are proud of her achievements both professionally and academically, and I am confident she will be a great leader as she transitions to Deputy Warden at Rutledge.”

Bell began her career with the department in 2000 as a Correctional Officer at Macon SP. In 2011, she transferred to Lee SP. During her tenure at Lee SP, she served as Correctional Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant. In 2010, Bell transitioned into Care & Treatment as a Counselor at Autry SP.  She was promoted, in 2012, to Chief Counselor, where she currently serves.

Bell earned a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Criminal Justice from Albany State University and a Master’s degree of Science in Psychology from Walden University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Sergeants Academy, and Deputy Wardens Academy. She is currently enrolled in Executive BCOT.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
