New Deputy Warden Named at Metro Reentry Prison

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Cynthia Parham to Deputy Warden of Security at Metro Reentry Prison effective September 16, 2017. Parham will be responsible for supervising and managing all security staff and the overall management and operations of the facility. Metro Reentry Prison, formerly Metro State Prison, will reopen in 2018 with a focus on reentry programming and initiatves.
“Cynthia has vast knowledge in the field of security, beginning her career as a correctional officer and working her way up to Deputy Warden,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We are confident in her ability to help GDC reopen the Metro Atlanta facility securely and safely.”
Parham began her career with GDC in 1999 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia State Prison (SP). During her tenure at Georgia SP, she served on the TACT Squad and the Honor Guard, and as Sergeant. In 2007, Parham was promoted to Lieutenant at Rogers SP and in 2010, transferred to Georgia Diagnostics & Classification Prison (GDCP), where she served as Lieutenant and Captain. In 2013, Parham was promoted to Unit Manager at GDCP, where she currently serves.
Parham is currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice. She has completed the following department training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Advanced Management Training (AMT), and Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI).
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
