New Superintendent at Appling Integrated Treatment Facility

Vashti Brown Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Vashti Brown to Superintendent at Appling Integrated Treatment Facility (ITF), effective November 1, 2021. As Superintendent, Brown will be responsible for overseeing 49 staff members and 200 male detainees.
“Brown has dedicated over 15 years to the agency and has worked her way up through the ranks proving her commitment along the way,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “Her correctional knowledge and experience will serve her well in her new role as Superintendent at Appling ITF.”
Brown began her career with the GDC in 2006 as a Secretary I at Telfair State Prison/Milan Unit. In 2007, she was promoted to a Secretary II with Care and Treatment and served in this position until she was promoted to Counselor at Wilcox State Prison in 2012. She transferred to Telfair State Prison as a Counselor in 2013 and has served as Chief Counselor at Telfair since 2015. In 2018, she was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Smith State Prison, where she currently serves.
Brown holds an Associate in General Studies with a minor in Sociology from Georgia Military College and a Bachelor in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. She has completed Basic Counselor Training, NIC Auditor Training, Supervision I, II and III, Executive Basic Correctional Officer Training, Management, I, II, and III, and Deputy Warden Academy.
