Carlton Standifer Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Carlton Standifer, Deputy Director of Transportation, to Director of Transportation, effective June 1st. Standifer will supervise oversight of daily operations for transportation of inmates for all state facilities.

“Mr. Standifer’s extensive background with the Georgia Department of Corrections, particularly in the medical transport areas, will bring a wealth of knowledge to the transportation division of the Field Operations unit,”  said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.

Standifer began his career with the GDC in 1986 as a Correctional Officer at Frank Scott State Prison and in 1994, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Macon State Prison. In 2007, he transitioned to Rockdale Detention Center as a Correctional Officer until the facility closed. He moved on to Metro State Prison as a Hub Captain in 2008, where he was in charge of helping to develop a medical transportation unit. He was later promoted to Unit Manager at Atlanta Medical Center in 2012 and was instrumental in helping to develop an additional Long-Term Care Medical Unit at North DeKalb Hospital in Decatur. He has been serving as Deputy Director of Transportation for GDC since 2017.

Standifer holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix. He also attended Newberry College in South Carolina. He has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic and Advanced Management Training, and First Responder Active Shooter Training APD.
