David Smith Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of David Smith, Assistant Director for Centralized Maintenance, to Director, Engineering and Construction Services (ECS), effective June 16th. Smith will be responsible for managing the ECS division, which is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the essential physical infrastructure.

“With more than 35 years of experience in various roles of the field of Engineering, Smith’s extensive background will bring a wealth of knowledge to the agency’s ECS division and assist in fulfilling our mission,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.

Smith joined the GDC in July of 2017 as the Assistant Director of Centralized Maintenance of ECS, and in April of 2018, he assumed the role of Interim ECS Director. He has held numerous engineering and construction positions with both State and private sector organizations, to include Principal Engineer and Chief Financial Officer, Assistant Director for Plant Operations, Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, Director of Facilities Operations, Business Development Leader, and Associate Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Augusta State University.
