Sharon Shaver Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Sharon Shaver to Director of Compliance for the agency, effective August 16, 2016. As the Director of Compliance, Shaver will be responsible for the Agency’s Compliance Unit including PREA, Audits, and Accreditation.

“Sharon’s commitment to excellence and attention to detail made her the right choice for this position,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “I am confident that under her leadership, we will continue to set the standard in developing and implementing best practices in all our correctional facilities.”

Shaver began her career with the Department in August 1997 at Bostick State Prison and became the Business Manager at Dooly State Prison in 1998. She was promoted to Deputy Warden of Administration in 1999 and served at Macon State Prison before transferring to Rivers State Prison. In 2008, Shaver was promoted to Director of Offender Administration. In 2010, Shaver was appointed to Campus Superintendent and facilitated the transition of over 400 Headquarters employees from Atlanta to State Offices South in Forsyth. In 2011, she was appointed Division Deputy Director of Operations Planning & Training Division. In 2012, Shaver became the Director of the Atlanta Youth Development Campus at the Department of Juvenile Justice. Shaver returned to GDC in May 2013, where she served as the Leadership Development Coordinator in Forsyth, before being promoted to the Statewide PREA Coordinator in September 2014, where she most recently served.

Shaver received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia College & State University in 2005, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University in 2008. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Public Administration at Valdosta State University.
