Ricky Alexander Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Ricky Alexander to deputy warden of security at Washington State Prison (SP), effective March 16, 2019. In this role, Alexander will be responsible for overseeing approximately 287 security staff members and 1,432 close security male offenders at the facility.

“Alexander’s experience and skills have proven to be an asset to the department,” Ward said. “I am confident that the staff and offenders will excel under his leadership at Washington SP.”

Prior to beginning his career with the department, Alexander served 16 years with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. During his tenure with the Department of Juvenile Justice he served in a variety of roles, to include juvenile officer, juvenile behavior health counselor, RSAT treatment team coordinator, RSAT program director, institution program director, and a juvenile justice probation officer III. Alexander began his career with the department in 2013 as a behavior health contract counselor at Washington SP and Hancock SP. In 2014, Alexander became the tier II behavior health counselor at Hancock SP and in 2015 he transferred to Washington SP as a behavior health counselor. Alexander was promoted to unit manager at Washington SP in 2016, where he currently sserves.

Alexander received his Bachelor of Science Degree in social work with a minor in psychology from Savannah State University. He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Hostage Negotiator Training, Supervision I, II, and III.
