LaChaka McKenzie Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of LaChaka McKenzie to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Macon State Prison (SP) effective December 16, 2016. McKenzie will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of more than 1,700 close security male inmates.

“LaChaka holds a great deal of knowledge in the counseling field, and is dedicated to the successful rehabilitation of our offender population,” said Commissioner Dozier. “I am confident that she will be an effective leader in her new position as Deputy Warden.”

McKenzie started her career with the Department in 2005, as a Correctional Officer at Macon SP. In 2007, she was promoted to Counselor at Dooly SP, and in 2010, she transferred back to Macon SP as a Counselor.  In 2016, McKenzie was promoted to Chief Counselor at Macon SP, where she currently serves.  

McKenzie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Fort Valley State University and a Master’s degree in Administration of Justice Security from the University of Phoenix. She is also a certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor. McKenzie has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Counselor Training, Basic Management Training (BMT), the Addiction Certification Program, and Hostage Negotiation Training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
