New Deputy Warden of Administration Named at Hancock State Prison

Katherine Wells Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Katherine Wells to Deputy Warden of Administration at Hancock State Prison, effective February 1, 2018. As Deputy Warden, Wells will be responsible for overseeing the Business Office, Property/Supply Operations, Maintenance and Food Service departments at the facility housing over 1,1100 close security male offenders.
“Wells has worked extremely hard during her tenure with the department,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We look forward to her leadership in her new role.”
Wells began her career with the Department in 2001 as a Correctional Officer at Rivers State Prison. She served as a Correctional Officer until 2005, when she transferred to the File Room as a Secretary. Upon the closure of Rivers State Prison in 2008, Wells transferred to Hancock State Prison as the Mailroom Clerk and later in 2008 was promoted to Accounting Clerk. In 2012, she was promoted to an Account Paraprofessional. In 2015, Wells was promoted to the Business Manager at Washington State Prison, where she currently serves.
Wells has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Purchasing, Advanced Purchasing, Supervision 1, 2, & 3 and Management 1, 2, &3.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
