Ahmed Holt Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Timothy C. Ward announced the promotion of Ahmed Holt, Deputy Director of Field Operations, to Assistant Commissioner, Facilities Division, effective December 1, 2019.  Holt will be responsible for the oversight of 35 State Prisons, four Private Prisons, 23 County Prisons, seven Substance Abuse Treatment Centers, 15 Transitional Centers, seven Probation Detention Centers, 21 Fire Stations, the Special Operations Unit, Offender Administration, the Inmate Transportation Unit, and the Communications Center. Holt will also monitor the overall supervision and safety of nearly 52,000 felony offenders.

“In his 18 years with the GDC, Ahmed has gained invaluable knowledge and experience in many areas within Corrections,” said Commissioner Ward. “We are confident that he will excel in his new role and will ensure the safe and secure operations of our facilities.”

Holt began his career with the GDC in 2001 as a Probation Officer, taking on various roles ranging from Court Services to Specialized Supervision Officer. In 2005, Holt was promoted to Probation Officer III and was assigned as Manager of the Sex Offender Administration Unit in 2006. In 2010, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Rutledge State Prison. The following year, Holt was promoted to Deputy Director of Audits & Compliance in Central Office. In 2012, he returned to Facilities Operations to serve as Warden of Central State Prison. Holt transferred in 2014, to Phillips State Prison to serve as Warden, was promoted to Assistant Regional Director, North Region in 2017, followed by his promotion to Deputy Director, Field Operations in 2018.

Holt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Savannah State University. He graduated from Columbus State University’s Command College with a Master of Science degree in Public Administration, and has completed the following departmental training: Basic Probation Officer Training (BPOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), POST Instructor Program, Corrections Leadership Institute, Leadership GDC, and the Warden’s Peer Interaction Program.
