New Deputy Warden of Security at Washington State Prison

Tiauna Powell Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Tiauna Powell, Unit Manager at Washington State Prison (SP), to Deputy Warden of Security at Washington SP, effective September 16, 2026. As Deputy Warden of Security, Powell will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and 1,060 male offenders.

"Tiauna has consistently proven herself to be a professional and effective leader during her tenure with the agency,” said Commissioner Oliver. “We are confident that she will continue uphold the GDC mission as she takes on this critical role.”

Powell began her career with the GDC at Phillips SP in 2010 as a Correctional Officer. In 2013, she transferred to Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP), where she was later promoted to Field Training Officer, and Sergeant in 2019. In 2021, she transferred to Washington SP, and in 2022 she was promoted to Lieutenant. In 2023, she was promoted to Unit Manager at ASMP, and in 2026, she transferred to Washington SP in that capacity, where she currently serves.

Powell is currently studying criminal justice at the University of West Georgia. Her departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Field Training Officer, Management, I, II, and III, Supervision I, II, and III, Sergeant’s Academy, Special Operations Training, and POST Instructor Training.
