Rashedah Mitchell Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Rashedah Mitchell, Behavioral Health Counselor Supervisor at Hancock State Prison (SP) to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Hancock SP effective February 1, 2026. As Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, Mitchell will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of educational programs, health services, library services, counseling programs, recreational services, and the mental health services of female offenders at the facility.

“Rashedah has consistently displayed a strong work ethic and exceptional leadership qualities,” said Commissioner Oliver. “We are confident that she will continue to enhance our mission and our ongoing commitment to providing care and treatment avenues for our offender population.”

Mitchell began her career with the GDC in 2006 as a Correctional Officer at Baldwin SP, and in 2011, she transitioned to Behavioral Health Counselor in 2011. In 2019, she was promoted to Behavioral Health Counselor Supervisor, where she currently serves.  

Mitchell earned a Master of Arts in Human Services Counselor with a concentration in crisis response and trauma from Liberty University, a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Georgia College and State University, and an Associate of Arts in Psychology from Macon State College.  Her departmental training consists of Basic Management III, Chief Counselor Training and multiple counseling trainings.
