New Deputy Warden of Security at Dooly State Prison

Lee Major Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Lee Major, Unit Manager at the Special Management Unit, to Deputy Warden of Security at Dooly State Prison (SP), effective January 16, 2025. As Deputy Warden of Security, Major will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and 1,711 male offenders.

“Major has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in each position he has held within GDC,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are proud to have him as a part of our team and are confident that his correctional knowledge will prove valuable to the mission and the staff at Dooly SP.”

Major began his career with the GDC in 2010 at Burruss Correctional Training Center (CTC) as a Correctional Officer. In 2011, he was promoted to the Tactical Squad at Georgia Diagnostics and Classification Prison. In 2012, he transferred to the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice as a Security Management Response Team member. In 2015, he returned to the GDC at Burruss CTC where he was promoted to Sergeant in 2016. In 2017, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Metro Reentry Facility, and in 2019, he returned to Burruss CTC in the same capacity. In 2022, he was promoted to Captain at the Special Management Unit, and later that year, he was promoted to Unit Manager, where he currently serves. 

Major’s departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Tactical Squad Basic Training, Sergeant’s Academy, Lieutenant’s Academy, Supervision I, II, and III, and POST Instructor Training.
