New Warden at Lee State Prison
Letitia Burks Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Letitia Burks, Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Rutledge State Prison (SP) to Warden at Lee SP effective December 16, 2024. As Warden, Burks will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and approximately 749 male offenders
"Letita has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic during her 24 year tenure with the agency," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident that she will lead with integrity and continued dedication as she takes on her new role as Warden at Lee SP."
Burks began her career with the department in 2000 as a Correctional Officer at Macon SP. In 2001, she transferred to Lee SP where she rose through the ranks as Sergeant and Lieutenant. In 2010, Burks transitioned into Care & Treatment as a Counselor at Autry SP. In 2012, she was promoted to Chief Counselor, and in 2017, she was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Rutledge SP, where she currently serves.
Burks earned a bachelor’s degree of Science in Criminal Justice from Albany State University and a master’s degree of Science in Psychology from Walden University. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Sergeants Academy, Deputy Wardens Academy, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
