New Deputy Warden of Security at Johnson State Prison
Willie Carr Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Willie Carr, Acting Deputy Warden of Security at Johnson State Prison (SP), to Deputy Warden of Security at Johnson SP, effective November 1, 2024. As Deputy Warden of Security, Carr will be responsible for overseeing security staff members and 1,584 male offenders.
“Willie has been a dedicated leader in each position he has held,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are proud to have him as a part of our team and are confident that his correctional knowledge will prove valuable to the mission and to the staff at Johnson SP.”
Carr began his career with the State of Georgia in 2005 at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. In 2007, he transferred to the GDC at Dodge SP as a Correctional Officer, and in 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2014, he transferred in the same capacity to Johnson SP, and in 2015 he was promoted to Lieutenant. In 2019, Carr was promoted to Unit Manager, and in 2021, he was promoted to ACA Specialist with the Office of Professional Standards. In 2024, he was promoted to Acting Deputy Warden of Security, where he currently serves.
Carr received his Criminal Justice Diploma from Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Carr’s departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Effective Communication, Sergeant’s Academy, Supervision I, II, and III and Management I, II, and III.
