Indictments Underscore Department’s Zero-Tolerance Policy for Contraband and Illegal Activity

FORSYTH, Ga. –  In concert with today’s announcement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Georgia outlining indictments in Operation Night Drop, Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver applauded the team of GDC Agents, along with state, local, and federal partners for their commitment to public safety and the safe operations of GDC facilities.

“As we continue to demonstrate, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy for individuals who jeopardize our non-negotiable mission of public safety, whether civilian or inmate,” said Commissioner Oliver.  “We will continue working with all of our partners in bringing these individuals to justice and ensuring our fight against contraband and its role in criminal activity is halted.”

Because contraband, specifically cell phones, presents a serious danger within all correctional systems across the country,  the GDC and its counterparts continuously work to advocate for cell phone signal jamming, which requires federal action. While those efforts continue, the department will not stop in bringing the fight to those who continue with their criminal enterprise within state prison facilities and will continue to ensure anyone involved is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law – regardless of status within the system.
