Deshawn Jones Reassigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the reassignment of Deshawn Jones, Warden at Phillips State Prison (SP) to Warden at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP) effective June 16, 2024. As Warden, Jones will be responsible for overseeing all staff members and approximately 1,190 male offenders.

 “Deshawn has demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his career and has been a tremendous asset to the agency,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident he will continue to excel in his new role while upholding our mission and values.”

Jones began his career with the GDC in 2006 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP). During his tenure at LASP, he was placed on the Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT) and was promoted through the ranks of Sergeant, CERT Commander, Assistant Commander of the Statewide Honor Guard, Lieutenant, and Diagnostic Director. In 2016, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Lee Arrendale Transitional Center, and in 2018 he was promoted to Superintendent at Atlanta Transitional Center. In 2020, Jones was promoted to Warden at Rutledge SP, and in 2022, he was reassigned to Phillips SP, where he currently serves.

Jones departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, CERT Basic Training, Sergeants Academy, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, POST Instructor Training, Effective Communication Training, Deputy Warden's Academy, Warden's Pre-Command Academy, Leadership GDC, and National Honor Guard Academy.
