Pye Execution Final Media Advisory

FORSYTH, Ga. – The execution of condemned murderer Willie James Pye scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson was carried out on March 20, 2024, at 11:03 p.m in accordance with state law. Pye did accept a final prayer and did not record a final statement. Pye was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of Alicia Lynn Yarbrough.

There have been 75 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Pye was the 54th inmate put to death by lethal injection.  There are presently 35 men and one woman under death sentence in Georgia.
