Colwell Probation Detention Center Hosts Graduation
Six Detainees Receive Automotive and Light Repair Certificates
FORSYTH, Ga. – On June 30, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), in partnership with North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Adult Education WIOA grant program, hosted an Automotive and Light Repair graduation. During the ceremony, six detainees received Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Technician certificates.
"We appreciate our partners that assist us in providing the detainees with the skills necessary to obtain employment upon release," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "By completing this program, these offenders have taken an invaluable step towards ensuring they are prepared when they return to society."
The 10-week Auto Electrical/Electronic Systems Technician certificate program provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the field as entry-level technicians to diagnose, service, and repair basic electrical/electronic automotive systems. Topics covered during the course include engine repair, automatic transmission/transaxle, manual drive train/axles, suspension/steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, and engine performance.
