New Interim Warden at Augusta State Medical Prison

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the appointment of J. Kevin Perry to Interim Warden at Augusta State Medical Prison (ASMP), effective May 16, 2023. As Interim Warden, Perry will be responsible for overseeing staff members and approximately 1,157 male offenders.
“Perry has been a dedicated and dependable leader since beginning his career with the department,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident that his experience and correctional expertise will benefit the staff and offenders at ASMP.”
Perry began his career with the Department in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison (SP). In 1994, he transferred to ASMP as a Correctional Officer II, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2002. Perry transferred to Phillips SP in 2004 and rose through the ranks as Lieutenant, Captain, and Unit Manager. In 2015, Perry was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Clayton Transitional Center (TC), and in 2016 he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Phillips SP. In 2021, he was promoted to Superintendent at Phillips TC, and later that same year, he was promoted to Warden at Phillips State Prison.
His departmental training consists of Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Professional Management Program, Advanced Management Training, Basic Counselor Training, PREA Compliance Manager Training, Deputy Warden’s Academy, and Wardens Pre-Command.
