Andrew McFarlane Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. –  Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Andrew McFarlane to Warden at Telfair State Prison (SP), effective July 1, 2023. As Warden, McFarlane will be responsible for overseeing staff members and approximately 1,408 male offenders.

"McFarlane has proven himself to be a dedicated and valuable leader in each position he has held," said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. "We are confident that his correctional knowledge will benefit the staff and offenders at Telfair SP while upholding the GDC mission."

McFarlane began his career with the Department in 1997 as a Correctional Officer at Smith State Prison. During his tenure, he served as Sergeant of the Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT), Lieutenant, Lead Shift Supervisor, Captain, and Unit Manager. In 2016, he was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Rogers SP, and in 2019 he was reassigned to Deputy Warden of Security at Smith SP, where he currently serves. 

He has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management, Sergeants Academy, Professional Management Program through Columbus State University, Correctional Leadership Institute, Deputy Warden Academy, and Wardens Pre-Command.

McFarlane served in the United States Marine Corps from 1989-1993 and served in the United States Army from 1994-1997.
