Clay Nix Named

FORSYTH, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Corrections announced the selection of Clay Nix, director of the Office of Professional Standards (OPS), to the American Correctional Associations (ACA) chair of the Internal Affairs/Compliance and Monitoring Oversight Committee for the 2019-2021 term.

The Internal Affairs/Compliance and Monitoring, Oversight Committee was established at the request of the ACA president and assists in information sharing nationwide, positive contributions for ACA standards and development, and the betterment of each state agency.  The mission of this committee is to assist ACA divisions in the safety of ACA staff and the community while maintaining secure operations in our agencies in a manner which is based on national standards, exemplary practices and information sharing.

“The ACA functions as the national standards a corrections agency should strive towards, and we are honored to have Nix recognized for his commitment and correctional leadership experience,” said Commissioner Timonthy C. Ward.

In May 2017,  Nix was promoted to Director of OPS, where he oversees the Internal Investigations Unit, Offender Affairs/Ombudsman Unit, Intelligence Unit, Compliance Unit, PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) and the Apprehension Unit.  Prior to this position, Nix served as the deputy director and inspector in charge of OPS.  Before beginning his career with GDC, Nix held positions as senior investigator with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation as a narcotics agent and special agent, as well as a jailer with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office.
