Timothy C. Ward Named
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) announced the appointment of Chief of Staff Timothy C. Ward to the American Correctional Association’s (ACA) Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (CAC). Ward has been selected by ACA to serve as one of 28 Commissioners on the CAC, and his appointment will be effective through February 2021.
The Commission on Accreditation for Corrections was established in 1974 with the purpose of implementing a voluntary program of accreditation to measure compliance with ACA’s national standards. The makeup of the Commission reflects the Association’s membership composition including adult and juvenile components as well as international and health services. The responsibility of rendering accreditation decisions rests solely with the Commission.
“We are proud to have one of our own recognized by ACA for his commitment, and more than 30 years of Correctional leadership experience,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.
Ward was appointed to serve as Chief of Staff for the GDC in December 2016, where he oversees all divisions and departmental operations. Prior to this position, Ward served as Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division for five years. He began his career with the Department in 1992 at Scott State Prison as a Correctional Officer. He went on to serve in several capacities with the Department to include; Counselor at Hancock and Rivers State Prisons, Chief Counselor at Scott State Prison, Superintendent at the Western Probation Detention Center and McEver Probation Detention Center, Warden of Rogers, Johnson and Phillips State Prisons, as well as the Director of Facility Operations.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
