Officer Lamar Horne Honored
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) presented Officer Lamar Horne of the Augusta Transitional Center with Individual Fitness Awards at the 12th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on July 7 at the State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Ga.
“Lamar is a great example of commitment to the Department’s physical fitness program and his focus on physical fitness is an inspiration to us all,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We should all strive to follow some form of pursuit of personal fitness and health.”
The recipient of Individual Fitness Award must be involved in a personal fitness plan and must diligently work towards achieving a positive health goal.
Officer Horne was selected for this award for his dedication to physical fitness. His philosophy and commitment towards physical fitness is to constantly strive to improve rather than work to meet another’s standard. He works hard to maintain his personal health and fitness and sets an amazing example for staff at Augusta Transitional Center.
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with Chief of Staff Greg Dozier were Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance Scott Poitevint, Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Timothy C. Ward, Assistant Commissioner of Inmate Services Dr. L.C. ‘Buster’ Evans and keynote speaker Randall Godfrey.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
