Bruce Chatman Promotion

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Bruce Chatman to Assistant Regional Director of the Southeast Region, effective July 1, 2016. Chatman will assist with the oversight and management of 16 facilities throughout Southeast Georgia.

“Bruce has over 30 years of experience in facility operations,” said Commissioner Bryson. “His in-depth knowledge of the interworking of facilities will greatly benefit him in his new role as Assistant Regional Director.”

Chatman began his career with the Department in 1984 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison. During his tenure with the department, he has worked in a variety of positions, to include Sergeant, Lieutenant, Unit Manager, Deputy Warden of Security. In 1999, Chatman was promoted to Warden at Washington State Prison. Since then, he has served as Warden at the following facilities: Bostic State Prison, Hancock State Prison, Dooly State Prison, Frank Scott State Prison, Autry State Prison, Georgia State Prison and Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison, where he most recently served.

Chatman has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), and Executive Leadership Training.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
