Tom Sittnick Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Tom Sittnick as Deputy Director of the Operations, Planning and Training Division (OPTD) effective December 1, 2014. As Deputy Director, Sittnick will be responsible for synchronizing efforts of all sections within the division and overseeing day-to-day operations and staff development.
“Tom is a true leader and has extensive knowledge in the operations of the Department,” said Commissioner Owens. “His successful progression through the Department has equipped him with the experience needed to serve him in this new position.”
Sittnick began his career with the Department as Director of Investigations and Compliance in 2006 after serving 30 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Colonel of the Infantry. In 2010, he was promoted to Director of Health Services, where he most recently served.
Sittnick has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Old Dominion University, two Master’s degrees in Advanced Military Studies and National Security and Strategic Students from the National War College, National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000
state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
