Commissioner: Timothy C. Ward
Director of Public Affairs: Joan Heath
Offenders reunify with family
FORSYTH, Ga. – On April 12th, Lee Evidence Based Prison, located in Leesburg, Georgia held its annual Spring Family Day event. More than 400 visitors attended, and had the opportunity to spend the day reunifying with their incarcerated loved ones.
“The Family Day events provide offenders the opportunity to focus on rebuilding relationships with family and friends,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “These relationships are the fundamental pathway to successful reentry into society.”
During the event, education representatives were available to speak with offenders and their loved ones about the importance of taking advantage of educational opportunities the offenders are offered while incarcerated. Attendees were able to participate in various games, and enjoy snacks while spending time with their incarcerated loved ones.
Lee State Prison is an evidence-based facility, which was remissioned as such in June 2015. This facility provides offenders a two-year, four-phase program that encourages them to change their way of thinking, in order to change their behavior and return to society as productive citizens.
