Tommy Bowen Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Tommy Bowen, Superintendent at Bleckley Probation Detention Center to Warden at Central.

State Prison, effective August 1st. As the Warden, Bowen will be responsible for overseeing approximately 215 staff members and 1,100 medium security male offenders.

“Mr. Bowen has worked his way up the ranks at GDC over the last several years and we are pleased that he will be leading up Central State Prison,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.

Bowen began his career with the GDC in 1996 as a Correctional Officer at Pulaski State Prison (SP). During his tenure at Pulaski SP, he rose through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Unit Manager. He has served as Superintendent at Bleckley Probation Detention Center since 2010.

Bowen holds an associate’s degree in Law Enforcement and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University. He has also completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, the Professional Management Program, the Corrections Leadership Institute, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
