Execution Scheduled

FORSYTH, Ga. – The execution of condemned murderer Robert Earl Butts Jr. scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson was carried out on May 4, 2018 at 9:58 p.m. in accordance with state law. Butts did not accept a final prayer and recorded a final statement. Butts was sentenced to death in 1998 for the murder of Donovan Corey Parks.

There have been 70 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Butts was the 49th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 52 men under death sentence in Georgia.
