Graduates Receive Certificate from State Bar of GA

FORSYTH, Ga. – On April 15, 30 offenders graduated from BASICS (Bar Association Support to Improve Correctional Services) World of Work at Central State Prison. This was the first World of Work graduation held at Central this year.

“The World of Work program is one of many great vocational programs that Central State Prison offers,” said Commissioner Bryson. “It provides offenders with the basic knowledge needed to become employed and to stay employed.”

BASICS World of Work is a 10-week intensive employment and entrepreneurial training program that teaches participants how to acquire and maintain a job, and how to start their own business. The program assists offenders by giving them the skills to stay out of prison once they are released. The mission is to aid and steer inmates in the direction of self-rehabilitation.

Upon completion, offenders receive a BASICS World of Work certificate from the State Bar of Georgia Committee Leadership.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
