Coastal State Prison celebrates success

FORSYTH, Ga. – Every Thursday, Coastal State Prison hosts a graduation for the offenders and detainees enrolled in their Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) Program. In May, 26 offenders and 17 detainees graduated at the facility located in Garden City, GA. The 17 detainees were released back into society following the ceremony.

“Coastal State Prison’s highly structured RSAT program builds a great foundation for a successful reentry,” said Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier. “We are proud of the 43 individuals who completed the program this May.”

The nine-month, four-phase RSAT program is located in 11 dorms across Coastal State Prison, which the facility refers to as communities.  The program promotes recovery from both addiction and crime, and addresses behavioral challenges that are exacerbated with alcohol and drugs.  The four phases are: Orientation, Active Treatment, Re-Entry and Relapse Prevention.

This year, a total of 137 offenders and 75 detainees have successfully completed the program. For more information on the agency’s substance abuse treatment programs, visit: RSAT
