Lt. Derrick McDaniel recognized
FORSYTH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Lt. Derrick McDaniel as Supervisor of the Year at the 14th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on June 19 at GDC headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Greg Dozier was Chief of Staff Timothy C. Ward, Assistant Commissioners Ricky Myrick, Scott Poitevint, Jay Sanders, Randy Sauls, and Assistant Director of Professional Development Tim Williams and Director of Professional Standards Clay Nix.
“Lt. McDaniel has set the tone for leadership at his facility,” said Assistant Commissioner of Facilities, Ricky Myrick. “He takes pride in his duties and constantly finds ways to improve his environment.”
The award recognizes GDC agents or investigators involved with significant cases, received special achievements, displayed leadership, acts of valor or heroism, and provided outstanding service in the community.
McDaniel began his career in 2001 and has worked his way up through the ranks. During the past year, he has set the tone for professional leadership. As the facility CERT Supervisor and STG Coordinator, he has been called upon to complete tasks that pertained to a high level of gang activity throughout the State. The CERT teams support under the leadership of Lt. McDaniel was outstanding during his tenure and continues to be a driving force of the success of Calhoun State Prison.
