Eight Detainees Graduate

FORSYTH, Ga. —  On March 29, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), in partnership with the North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Adult Education WIOA grant program, hosted a Culinary graduation, during which eight detainees were presented certificates in ServSafe Management.  The ceremony was held at the NGTC Blairsville Campus, and represented the culmination of a 10-week culinary program for detainees housed at Colwell Probation Detention Center (PDC).

“We are grateful for our partnership with NGTC that provides detainees an opportunity to earn vocational programming while incarcerated,” said Commissioner Timothy C. Ward. “The detainees are now equipped with the skills needed to transition back into society.”

The culinary program is taught by a NGTC instructor, and provides participants with the knowledge and skills to become certified as ServSafe Managers.  ServSafe is a food and beverage safety training and certificate program administered by the National Restaurant Association.
