Forsyth, GA. – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Georgia Correctional Industries (GCI) employee, Dorothy Cribb, as GCI Employee of the Year at the 13th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on August 8 at GDC headquarters in Forsyth, Ga.
“Dorothy always goes the extra mile, and continuously looks for ways to improve products and save money,” said Deputy Executive Director of GCI Amy Pataluna. “She is a true example of a leader and is respected by her colleagues, peers, and the offenders she oversees.”
This is the inaugural year that GDC recognized the GCI Employee of the Year. Cribb was selected for this honor because of her dependability, work performance, leadership skills, initiative, customer service, communication, operational management, integrity, adaptability to new challenges, and on-the-job (OJT) training.
Cribb supervises seven GCI employees and 45 offenders. She is responsible for the oversight of the production of eyeglasses for GDC, Georgia Medicaid, Georgia Medicare, Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Louisiana Department of Corrections, and Opticare. Cribb started her career with GCI eight years ago and has been the Plant Manager for Hays State Prison’s Optics Plant for the last two years. She is a Licensed Dispensing Optician and is the certified monitor for staff members enrolled to become Licensed Opticians. She has implemented an OJT program for offenders to receive their Optician Certification.
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 250 guests. Making the award presentation with Commissioner Greg Dozier and Executive Director of GCI Chris Tiller and Deputy Executive Director of GCI Amy Pataluna were State Senator Tyler Harper, Board of Corrections member Christopher Clark, and Chief of Staff Timothy C. Ward.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
