Enhancing content and making information for family and friends more accessible

FORSYTH, Ga. – On May 4, Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the launch of the newly redesigned GDC website. This website optimizes the user experience, streamlines the site making it responsive across all devices, and brings topics that are of upmost importance to the forefront.

“It is our hope that with the redesign of our website, we have made information more readily available for families and friends of incarcerated loved ones,” said Commissioner Bryson. “We believe that it is essential to provide information to assist them in learning and understanding GDC operations while their loved one is under correctional supervision.”

The redesign of the GDC website was an 18-month project that involved statistical research and audience surveys as well as extensive teamwork.  High-demand areas have been moved to a more prominent location, the site’s homepage; two-way communication has been improved; forms and applications have been simplified; new search functions have been added, to include find a facility, and find an offender; and the site’s integration with social media has been enhanced. Additionally, the site now provides translation for nearly 100 languages to the diverse community we serve.

“In line with our efforts to make information more easily available, we have developed a new suggestion box under our Family and Friends Resources section,” said Commissioner Bryson. “This new tool will allow family and friends a forum to submit suggestions and express concerns directly to us.”

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
