Alfred Johnson of Albany Probation and Donald Langdon of Johnson State Prison Honored

FORSYTH, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) presented Alfred Johnson of the Albany Probation Office and Officer Donald Langdon of Johnson State Prison with Individual Fitness Awards at the 11th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on July 7 at the State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Ga.

“Alfred and Donald are great examples of commitment to the Department’s physical fitness program and their achievements are inspiration to all,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “As employees of the Department, we should all strive to follow their example in pursuit of personal fitness.”

The recipients of Individual Fitness Awards must be involved in a personal fitness plan and must diligently work towards achieving a positive health goal. 

Alfred served with served with the Georgia Department of Corrections until the transfer of Probation Operations and personnel to the new Department of Community Supervision on July 1, 2015. As the Fitness Coordinator for his office, he implemented an after-hours physical fitness workout program to help officers prepare for the physical fitness plan. A former Marine, he is determined not to allow injuries sustained during his military service to deter him from engaging in his individual fitness plan of weight training, cardio, and healthy eating. Alfred is also is a former natural competitive body builder.

Donald is a competitive runner, running more than 10 miles each day regardless of the weather.  He has competed in over 200 events both locally and nationally. He was an Olympic Torch runner in the 1996 Games. He has also competed in the Boston Marathon on several occasions. In April 2013, he competed in the Boston Marathon and crossed the finish line minutes before to the bombings.

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests.  Making the award presentation with Commissioner Homer Bryson were Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance Scott Poitevint, Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division Timothy C. Ward, and Board of Corrections Chair Rose Williams.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
