FORSYTH, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) named Paul Bolden of Phillips State Prison, Chol Kim of Smith State Prison and Chaplain Katie Wright of Phillips Transitional Center as recipients for the Volunteer of the Year award at the 11th Annual GDC Awards ceremony on July 7 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Ga.

The Department’s mission of protecting and serving the public could not be accomplished without the assistance of our volunteers and their service.  Bolden, Kim, and Wright were nominated by GDC staff, who wished to honor them for their contributions.   

“The Department could not be successful without people who are willing to offer their time and service to help us fulfill our daily mission,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson.  “The work from these individuals is a valuable asset to our agency.”

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests.  Making the award presentation with Commissioner Homer Bryson were Assistant Commissioner of Administration & Finance Scott Poitevint, Assistant Commissioner of Facilities Division Timothy C. Ward, and Board of Corrections Chair Rose Williams.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
