Sheila Oubre Reassigned

Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Home Bryson announced the reassignment of Shelia Oubre for Developmental Assignment in Facilities Operations effective July 1, 2015. On Developmental Assignment, Oubre will assist with the implementation of Special Projects within Facilities Operations.

“Oubre has worked her way through the ranks since joining the Department in 1994,” said Commissioner Bryson.  “I am confident that her experience will be beneficial to the staff here at Central Office.”

Oubre joined the Department in 1994 as a Correctional Officer at Metro State Prison. During her career with the Department, she served as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Unit Manager, Superintendent and Deputy Warden of Security at various facilities. In 2009, she was promoted to Warden at Phillips State Prison and in 2010 served as Warden of Dooly State Prison. In 2011, she was reassigned to Warden of Baldwin State Prison, and in 2013, Oubre was reassigned to Warden at Burruss Correctional Training Center where she most recently served.

Prior to joining the Department, she served in the U.S. Army’s Military Police for 10 years. Oubre graduated from Kaplan University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Her departmental training consists of: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Warden’s Ore-Command, and Correctional Leadership Institute (CLI).

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,000 employees.
