FORSYTH, GA. — Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) will host an annual open house ceremony at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Ga. in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week on April 14, 2015. The National Crime Victims’ Rights Week for 2015 will be observed April 19 through April 25.

“Engaging Communities, Empowering Victims, is this year’s theme for Crime Victims’ Rights Week,” said Commissioner Homer Bryson. “Our partnership with communities across the state is fundamental in how we as law enforcement agencies strive to provide the victims of our state with the support they need to pursue justice and recovery.”

The open house ceremony, hosted by GDC, will offer crime victims the opportunity to meet with sponsoring agencies to ask questions and learn about the services offered. Victims may register for the event by calling 404-651-6668 or 1-800-593-9474 by April 10th. 

“Our hope is to help the victims of crime become survivors,” said Commissioner Bryson.

The multi-state agency victim services partnership is comprised of the following agencies: Judicial Council/Administrative Office of the Courts, Georgia Commission on Family Violence, Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, Georgia Department of Corrections, Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, Georgia Department of Public Safety, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, and Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
