New Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Named at Johnson State Prison

Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Cherie Price to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Johnson State Prison effective July 16, 2014. The facility is located in Wrightsville, Georgia. Formally Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Baldwin State Prison, Price will now be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of 1,546 medium security male inmates at Johnson State Prison.
“Cherie has gained valuable leadership experience in her 13 years with the Department,” said Commissioner Owens. “We look forward to the knowledge she will bring with her to Johnson State Prison.”
Price began her career with the Department in 2001 as a Counselor at Johnson State Prison. In 2005, Price was promoted to Chief Counselor at Scott State Prison. In 2006, she returned to Johnson State Prison to serve as Counselor over Sex Offender Releases. In 2011, Price was promoted to Chief Counselor at Baldwin State Prison, and in 2012 she transferred to Johnson State Prison to serve the same role. In October 2012, Price was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Baldwin State Prison, where she most recently served.
Price received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Mercer University. During her career with the Department she has completed Basic Correctional Officer Training, Advanced Management Training, Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment Training, Sex Offender Psycho-Educational Program Training, Family Violence Training, and Corrections Leadership Institute.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
