New Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment Named at Whitworth Women's Facility

Sheila Bracewell Appointed

Forsyth — Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Sheila Bracewell to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Whitworth Women’s Facility effective July 16, 2014. The facility is located in Hartwell, Georgia. Formally Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Lee Arrendale State Prison, Bracewell will now be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of medical, mental health, education and counseling services of 442 medium security female inmates at Whitworth Women’s Facility.

“Sheila has dedicated over nine years of faithful service to the Department,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “She will bring a wealth of knowledge that will greatly benefit the staff and inmates at Whitworth Women’s Facility.”
 
Bracewell began her career with the Department in 2005 as a General Population Counselor at Lee Arrendale State Prison.  In 2009, Bracewell was placed on Developmental Assignment with the Mental Health Division in the Office of Health Services, as well as with the Office of Audits and Compliance, located at central office. In 2011, she was promoted to Chief Counselor at Lee Arrendale State Prison. In 2013, Bracewell was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Lee Arrendale State Prison, where she most recently served.

Bracewell earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Georgia Southern University, and also graduated from the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s Regional Police Academy.  Prior to her career with the Department, she served as a Narcotics Agent from 1996 until 2005.  Sheila has successfully completed an array of departmental training to include; Professional Management Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training and the Correctional Leadership Institute.
