New State Monitor Named at Coffee Correctional Facility

John Paul Promoted

FORSYTH - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of John Paul as State Monitor of Coffee Correctional Facility, effective August 1, 2014. The facility is located in Nicholls, Georgia. As a State Monitor, Paul will now be responsible for monitoring private prison security functions and activities to ensure the proper custody and security of inmates.

“John’s many years of experience in his field have served the Department immensely,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “He is truly an asset to the Department and we look forward to his continued leadership at Coffee Correctional Facility.”

Paul began his career with the Department in 1988 as a Correctional Officer at Georgia State Prison.  In 1991, Paul was promoted to Counselor Associate at Georgia SP and in 1992, he was promoted to Counselor  at Georgia SP. In 1994, Paul was promoted to Senior Counselor at Smith State Prison, and in 1995, he was promoted to Chief Counselor at Milan State Prison. In 1996, Paul was promoted to Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Rogers State Prison. In 1999, Paul was reassigned as Deputy Warden of Security at Rogers SP, returning to his role in 2000 as Deputy Warden of Care & Treatment at Rogers SP, where he most recently served.

John earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Brewton Parker College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies from Georgia Southern University.  During his career with the Department he has successfully completed an array of departmental training programs, to include: Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Advanced Management Training, Professional Management Program, and POST IT.  He is currently attending the Correctional Leadership Institute.
